About Us
A brief history and a little about us!
Congregational Church is a fellowship of approximately 450 members. Most of us live in the East Longmeadow area and surrounding communities. Our ages range from newborns to almost 100 years old, everyone is welcome here. There is diversity in our personalities, but we are all commonly rooted in the love of God as expressed in Jesus Christ.
Our heritage goes all the way back to the Pilgrims of 1620; but we trace our local roots back to 1827 when our forebearers decided the traveling distance to the western side of Longmeadow was too far in inclement weather. So they built here in the eastern area of Longmeadow, which in time become East Longmeadow.
Our programs, worship style, and small groups continue to change over time as the Holy Spirit calls us to share our faith and welcome those it brings here. Time, too, presents new ways to grow but we still hold on to the fundamentals of our faith. In keeping with this, our congregation moved its meeting house from its original location up the hill on Somers Road to its current location on the East Long meadow rotary in 1875, built additions to our faculty in 1930 and 1950, joined the United Church of Christ in 1961, and became an Open and Affirming congregation in 2018.
Join us on Sunday to get the full experience of what God is doing here on the Rotary!
